Jason Works it Out in the Gym and On Campus

Jason Rutland works as Associate VP for Alumni and Parent Engagement at Anderson University but his everyday passion lies in CrossFit. Jason played baseball in college and was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which resulted in him using a wheelchair. He wanted to continue to be active so he started participating in CrossFit with his friend and found it easy to make changes to make the workout work for him. He started a CrossFit box, or a gym with all the equipment necessary to perform the Workout of the Day, and hopes to create an adaptive hub in Anderson. Jason also trains individuals with disabilities at his gym and works to create a community with them as he believes in the importance of youth with disabilities participating in physical activities.

When not working out, Jason helps make the Anderson University campus more accessible for students. He says his employer has high expectations of his capabilities and everything is handled professionally and respectfully. He appreciates that his employer is more interested in learning what actually works for people with disabilities rather than what is merely ADA compliant.
